Outlet replacement in Belgrade

Loose, scorched or worn-out sockets — replaced in minutes, but only after we check why they wore out.

The outlet is the part of an installation that gets replaced most often and inspected least.

When it needs replacing

  • Scorched or discoloured — brown or yellow around the pin holes means the joint has been overheating.
  • Wobbles in the wall — the box has come loose and the terminations move every time a plug is pulled.
  • The plug slides in too easily — the contacts are slack and will heat up under load.
  • No earth in a bathroom or kitchen — typical of buildings from before 1985.
  • Old pattern with no shutters — in a household with small children.

What we do

We isolate the circuit and confirm there is no voltage with an instrument, not with a neon screwdriver. We remove the old socket and look at the state of the conductors — this is the step that usually gets skipped. Scorched copper or aluminium at the end of the wire means the problem was never the socket.

If the wiring is aluminium the joint is made differently than for copper; mixing aluminium and copper without a proper connector is a common cause of exactly the corrosion that led to the overheating.

We fit the new socket, torque the terminals and check that it does not warm up under load.

What goes with it

If we are replacing several outlets on one circuit we also measure that circuit's insulation resistance. With the power already off, that is five extra minutes, and it answers whether the problem is local or the whole circuit is near the end of its life.

For scorched outlets we suggest looking at the consumer unit too — overheating at the end of a circuit often comes with overheating at the breaker.

How to get a price straight away

Photograph the outlet up close and send it over. The colour around the pin holes and the state of the faceplate usually say straight away whether this is a swap or something deeper.

Common questions

How long does replacing one outlet take?

The swap itself is about ten minutes. What takes longer is working out why the outlet wore out — if it is scorched, the problem is in the joint or in the load on that circuit, not in the socket, and that has to be dealt with or it comes back.

Can I replace an outlet myself?

Technically yes, if you can reliably isolate the circuit and verify there is no voltage. Practically, a socket that overheated is rarely the only problem on that circuit, so you usually end up replacing the symptom. If there are burn marks, do not touch it.

Will you replace outlets that have no earth?

We will, but we say what it means. A socket with an earth pin in a box with no protective conductor looks safe and is not. In bathrooms and kitchens we recommend fixing it properly rather than hiding it behind a new faceplate.

What if the wall box has come loose?

It gets made good with plaster or a new box is fitted. A socket that wobbles means the terminations inside move every time you pull a plug out, and that is the most common cause of later overheating.
