Consumer unit replacement in Belgrade

A modern board with proper labelling, real protection and measurements on completion — not just a new enclosure.

The consumer unit is the one place in a flat where everything adds up — every circuit, every load, and every bad joint anyone has made in the last thirty years.

When it is time

  • Ceramic fuses and no RCD — standard in buildings up to the eighties.
  • A board that is warm to the touch, or one breaker noticeably hotter than the rest.
  • No room for a new circuit when air conditioning, an induction hob or a car charger is added.
  • Nobody knows what is what — nothing is labelled, so finding a circuit is trial and error.
  • Selling or letting, where evidence of the installation's condition is asked for.

What the job involves

We list the existing circuits and measure them before anything is dismantled — without that there is no way to know what goes back into the new board. Then we fit a new enclosure with a main switch, RCD protection and individual breakers per circuit, sized to the actual cable cross-sections.

Circuits are split so one fault does not take down the whole flat: lighting separate from sockets, kitchen and bathroom on their own RCDs, larger loads (cooker, water heater, air conditioning) each on their own.

Every circuit gets a permanent label — not marker pen on the door, but something still readable in ten years.

Measurements and documentation

On completion we measure insulation resistance per circuit and the earth fault loop, and test the RCD. We photograph the board open and closed. You get numbers, not an opinion.

What drives the price

The number of circuits, the type and brand of equipment, the condition of the existing installation and how accessible the board is. There is a full price breakdown in the article on what a consumer unit replacement costs.

A photo does most of the work

Photograph the board with the cover off and send it over — the picture shows the circuit count, the protection type and whether the wiring is aluminium or copper. Those three things move the price more than anything else.

Common questions

How much does a consumer unit replacement cost?

For a flat up to 60 m², roughly 25,000–45,000 RSD excluding materials; for 60–100 m², roughly 40,000–70,000 RSD. With the board and materials, most jobs land at 60,000–120,000 RSD. The final figure depends on the number of circuits and the state of the existing installation.

How long will the power be off?

For a flat, expect 4 to 8 hours without supply. Fridges and freezers cope fine; if there is medical equipment in the flat that depends on power, tell us in advance so we can plan around it.

Does the board have to be replaced, or can it be reworked?

If the enclosure is sound and has enough space, a rework is often enough — new protection, circuits redistributed, everything labelled properly. Replacement is for boards that are too small, worn out, or showing heat damage on the enclosure itself.

Do I get anything in writing?

Yes. Every board finishes with insulation and loop impedance measurements, an RCD test and photo documentation. It is both proof the work was done and the record you need if you sell the flat.
